What is kept here
Storage, on this site, means a room or a building that a hotel sets aside for things rather than for people. A ski room, a boot room, a cellar, an ice house, a luggage floor, a linen store, a tea cupboard, an equipment room, a shed for bicycles. If a house has one, it usually says so, and that is where we start.
Every entry answers three questions in the same order. What is kept covers the things themselves. Where it is kept covers the part of the building they live in: a lower floor, a separate structure, a room by the door, a cellar. Who gets it out covers the person who handles them, which may be the guest, someone on duty, an instructor, or nobody in particular.
We never write about how anything is secured. No locks, no keys, no codes, no watching, no valuables. This is not squeamishness: describing the protection of other people's property is useless to a reader and unhelpful to a house. We also leave out advice about packing and insurance, which is not ours to give.
We never promise that a thing will be taken in. Whether a house can hold your skis or your case depends on the season and on how full it is, and no page written months earlier can tell you that. The practical line at the end of each entry is written as preparation, not as a complaint.
One sentence about something worth saying at the booking stage, so that neither you nor the house is surprised on the day.
The month and year when the published material for that entry was last opened. It dates our reading, not the hotel.
The material is published: hotel pages, architectural and travel writing, and press material about the buildings. We set it down in our own words. We publish no prices, no stars, no ratings, no booking, no paid placements. Nothing on this site can be bought, and a correction costs nothing to ask for.
There is a Casino Hotels section because four Canadian resorts belong to the same subject as everything else here: they are large buildings with a great deal to put somewhere. The gaming floor is not described, not judged and not counted. Coats, scenery, boats and golf clubs are.
